After you have arrived

Observatory (STRW) account and e-mail address
On your first working day, the Observatory IT office will set up your Observatory account and e-mail address. Please contact Erik Deul in room HL407 or by email: deul@strw.leidenuniv.nl

BSN (social security) number & Dutch bank account
The Service Centre International Staff will make an appointment for you at your local town hall to register as a citizen and apply for a BSN number. You will need the BSN number to open a bank account in the Netherlands. 30% tax facility – for non-Dutch employees
Under certain conditions the first 30% of salary are tax free if you are an employee from abroad. Access to buildings, rooms, laboratories and parking areas with the Leiden University identity card (LUCard)
A LUCard is needed to enter the Oort and Huygens buildings after working hours (8am – 8pm) and to access a number of rooms, laboratories and the University parking areas. Every university employee will automatically get a LU card at the start of their appointment. You need to activate the LU card online,
