Research software engineer in computational astrophysics

Leiden Observatory invites applications for a research software engineer within the cosmological simulations group of Matthieu Schaller and Joop Schaye.

The successful applicant may work on various aspects related to the development and use of cosmological simulations such as - The development, optimization, maintenance and, documentation of codes and analysis tools. - Data management. - Assistance with public data releases. - Community support for released software and data. - Assisting research students with technical problems related to simulation development and analysis. - Visualization for public outreach and education. - Running of simulations and on high-performance computing systems - Benchmarking for computing time proposals.

The appointment will be for one year initially, but it will be renewed in case of satisfactory performance and can be made permanent in case of exceptional performance. The position comes with a competitive salary and full benefits.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in computational astrophysics. Experience with C, Python, parallel programming, and usage of large computing clusters would be beneficial. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. by the starting date.
