JWST mirror fully deployed

The primary mirror of the James Webb Space Telescope is completely deployed. This was the final step of its unprecedented two-week deployment phase that began with a Dec. 25 launch. However, the mirror still needs configuration of the 18 segments, starting with pointing each segment to produce a single star image instead of 18 individual stellar representations. After pointing a phase synchronization has to take place in order to position each segment on the same wavefront location. This whole process will last until the beginning of April!
