Connecting your local gitlab account to your account on our identity provider (idp) will give you the benefit of Single Sign-on (SSO) and the security of two-factor authentication .
To set this up, first log in with your existing gitlab account. Then click on your profile icon (top left in the default layout) and choose “edit profile”. From the “Access” menu, choose “Password and authentication”. Under “Service sign-in” you will see a couple of buttons to connect to. Click the one named “Connect Leiden Observatory IdP”.
Once this has been set up, you don't have to type username and password any more on the gitlab login screen. In stead, you can click the button “Leiden Observatory IdP” below the login form. This will either bring you to our identity provider login window, or if you are already logged in to one of our other web services, it will log you in to gitlab immediately (that is what single sign-on stands for).
