STRW Retirement reception - Erik Deul

There are times to come and times to go.
For me time to go has arrived and I have been officially retired since 23 July.
To celebrate this achievement the Observatory has arranged a retirement festivity on 23 September 2025.

This festive event consists of:
- 16:15 - 17:00 Speeches, Gorlaeus BM.1.23
- 17:00 - 18:00 Reception, Kaiser Lounge

Retirement as a gentle pause

Work was never just a task,
More like a joy, a gift unmasked.
Each day a hobby, never chore,
A place to learn, create, explore.

Now comes the time to ease the pace,
To step aside with quiet grace.
Yet still I’ll walk familiar ways,
As guest in future, now and always.

No rushing clock, no daily race,
But friendships time cannot replace.
I carry them where’er I go,
The heart remembers, always so.

Retirement, then, is not goodbye,
Just softer wings that let me fly.
The work, the bond, the love will stay,
A part of me in every day.
