Sterrewacht Password Reset Information

Dear Sterrewachter,

There are multiple ways to reset your password.

If you are on a local system(*) you can go to our Intranet site in the "STRW Self Service" section (direct link).
*: Here, local is: a desktop computer, vdesk, logged in through ssh or vpn.

The most easy way when you are not on a local system, is to use our public facing website for which you must have setup 2FA (two Factor Authentication) or do that while you are accessing this reset password page.

It is also possible to reset your password from remote by

• login to our Linux ssh server or desktops,
• use a VPN connection and use our intranet web server or
• login to our virtual desktop service.

Before you can use any of these mechanisms you need to setup Two Factor Authentication. This can be done by accessing our webmail site, following the instruction that are presented to you. The vdesk server will also run this setup when you connect the first time.

When you have successfully setup Two Factor Authentication, you need to wait for at least 15 minutes before you can use any of the below methods.

Reset password through ssh

To login to the Sterrewacht ssh gateway use a ssh program of your choice for your OS and login to the server: ssh.strw.leidenuniv.nl
Once logged in you can type in on the command line: passwd
Follow the instructions presented to you to change your password.

Reset password through VPN

Before you can use VPN you need to obtain keys for VPN. Please contact the Sterrewacht helpdesk by sending a mail to helpdesk @ strw.leidenuniv.nl and request for a VPN key.
Using that key, setup a VPN connection. Then open a web browser and go to the link: https://intranet.strw.leidenuniv.nl/services
From this page you can do the password reset.

Reset password through virtual desktop service

Open a browser and go to https://vdesk.strw.leidenuniv.nl and open a virtual desktop instance. For detailed information on how to do this see our helpdesk page.
Once you have a virtual desktop running, open a web browser in that virtaual desktop and access the page https://intranet.strw.leidenuniv.nl/services
From this page you can do the password reset.
